What is Organizational Behavior

Organizational Behavior is study of human behavior in organizations. There are two words- 1. Organization: An organization is a collection of people working together in a division of labor to achieve a common purpose. The core purpose of an organization is the creation of goods and services. 2. Behavior: Behavior is way of action. Basically behavior is the actions or reactions of a person or animal in response to external or internal stimuli. So organizational behavior is a field of study that investigates the impact that individuals, groups and organizational structure have on behavior within the organization, for the purpose of applying such knowledge towards improving an organizational effectiveness. According to Luthans “Organizational Behavior is directly concerned with the understanding, predicting and controlling of human behavior in organizations”. According to LM Prasad The study and application of knowledge about human behavior related to other elements of an organization such as structure, technology and social systems. Stephen P Robins Organizational behavior as a systematic study of the actions and attitudes that people exhibit within organizations. Roman J. Alday Organizational behavior as a branch of the social science that seeks to build theories that can be applied to predicting understanding and controlling behavior in work organization.
