What is Counselling
Counselling is an extremely ancient word. According to Webster’s dictionary- ‘Consolation is mutual interchange of opinions or deliberating together’.
According to Robinson (1950), the term counseling covers all types of two-person situations in which one person, the client, is helped to adjust more effectively to himself and his environment.
According to Hahn and MacLean (1955) say that a scientific suggestion can be given only by a counselor who is adequately experienced and trained.
According to Willy and Andrew, Couselling is a process of mutual learning.
Defining counseling, Rogers 1942 says, Counselling does not mean providing a service by means of which specific problem of an individual may be solved. The process should help the counselee in gaining clear insight into the problem and in achieving self-confidence.
According to Arbuckle 1965, Counselling is a human relationship a warm relationship, in which the counselor, fully and completely, without any ifs or buts, accepts the client as a worth person.
